Daily Responsibilities The successful candidate will be process-oriented, conceptually driven, and possess the ability to think strategically and work collaboratively in a highly technical setting. He/she will be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously with little to no guidance and make recommendations on how to efficiently manage project milestones. The successful candidate will be a proven problem solver and a creative thinker who can learn new skills while leveraging past experiences. Good interpersonal and team building skills are a must. Due to the fluidity of the position, the technical writer must be able to easily build rapport with new people on a constant basis.
The primary responsibility for this position is writing end-user documentation for software development. Other tasks may include writing copy for marketing and proposal materials. In support of these various projects the incumbent will work with development teams to recommend and then create technical documents, as well as manage the document review and approval process. The technical writer will meet with principal leadership and attend technical meetings and demonstrations in order to gather project information. He/she may also contribute to and participate in testing activities identified by the development teams. Due to the fast-paced work environment, some local travel to client sites and surge hours may be necessary to accomplish tasks.

Technical Writing Expertise:

• Significant experience in writing, and editing technical documentation, such as concepts of operations, user manuals, white papers, proposals, articles, and brochures for a wide range of use.
• Ability to collaborate with programmers, engineers, graphic designers, and project managers during the design phase to gain an understanding of a project and communicate with development teams with some technical acuity.
• Ability to analyze requirements of a new project to determine types of publications needed.
• Ability to create a software user manual by using and learning the application, including capturing screen shots, and user workflows.
• Proficiency in document design and layout of materials to be published.
Technical Proficiency:
• Ability to understand the specifications and requirements provided by professional and technical staff and then articulate this information to others.
• Basic understanding of programming concepts, operating systems, and computer networking.
• Ability to operate in the context of multiple operating system environments (e.g., Windows, Linux, Unix).
• Ability to quickly learn new software applications and business processes.
Project Management Experience
• Ability to meet project timelines and deliverables.
• Ability to estimate required resources for tasks and projects.
• Experience with configuration management.
DESIRED SKILLS:
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially PowerPoint.
• Experience using standard technical writing tools, including Adobe RoboHelp, Framemaker, and Microsoft Visio.
• Experience using Adobe Creative Suite products.
• Experience with collaboration tools, such as wikis, blogs, and Microsoft SharePoint.
• Experience in computer programming, web design, graphic design, systems analysis and design, project management.
• Experience in developing and delivering technical training.
• Experience with standardization and quality control of deliverables.
